Access to Work taxi receipts: what they need to show
Last checked 25 October 2026 against GOV.UK and the sources below. General information, not advice. AwardMatch is independent and not affiliated with DWP or Access to Work.
Travel-to-work claims depend on receipts, and a receipt missing a postcode or the driver’s details can hold up the whole claim. Here’s what each one should show, so you can ask for a better receipt at the time.
The checklist
From Graeae’s 2026 claims guidance, a taxi invoice or receipt should show:
- the taxi company’s name
- the taxi company’s address
- the date and time of the journey
- the full pick-up address with postcode
- the full drop-off address with postcode
- the total cost
- for Uber, Bolt and similar: the driver’s signature or details
Getting a receipt that works
- Regular firm: ask whether they can produce monthly invoices with every journey’s details. Many already do this for Access to Work customers.
- Minicab card: ask the driver to fill in the date, time, drop-off postcode and cost, and sign it. Photograph it clearly the same day.
- Apps: download the full trip receipt, check it shows both addresses with postcodes, and keep the driver’s name.
Keeping track
The Taxi receipts tab in AwardMatch keeps a record of each journey and ticks off the checklist as you type the receipt’s details, so you can spot a missing postcode or driver name while it’s still easy to get fixed. Each month shows how many receipts are ready and the total cost.
Questions
Is a photo of the receipt OK?
GOV.UK says you can send copies if you don’t have the originals. Graeae says a photo of a minicab or London taxi card is accepted if it’s “a clear scan or photograph” showing the date and time, drop-off postcode, cost, and the driver’s signature, name and company logo.
What about Uber or Bolt?
Graeae’s guidance says invoices from app-based services need the driver’s signature or details, as well as the usual journey details. Download the full receipt from the app, not just the payment notification.
Does AwardMatch store photos of receipts?
No. It keeps a record of each receipt’s details and checks nothing is missing. Keep the receipts themselves together with each month’s claim.
Make every month’s claim match the award. AwardMatch keeps a log of each session with sign-off on the day, checks the month against the award’s hours, rate and dates, and makes the invoice PDF. It runs in your browser and your records stay on your device. Free for one award.
